What is Nylon?
Nylon refers to a group of synthetic polyamides made of large molecules with repeating units linked by amide bonds. The silk-like thermoplastic material is polymerized in different molecular structures described by the length of the backbone carbon chain, and the position of the functional groups on the backbone. Nylon 6 and nylon 66 are among the most common types of nylon. Nylon variants provide a range of mechanical properties with specific melting points, gravity and moisture content.
While Nylon is lightweight, it demonstrates high tensile and compressive strength, durability, chemical resistance, moisture resistance, impact strength and wear resistance. Since it's a synthetic plastic, nylon also withstands the attack of mold, insects and fungi.
